Welcome To The Cabaret!
Last week we held our annual Cabaret! The dancing school was 40 years old this month so everyone who is aged 14 or over could take part in a Cabaret style show with lots of fun dances, a few blue jokes and the odd song thrown in for good measure.
I have been attending “the grannies” class every Wednesday (nick named “the grannies” class because when we were a lot younger most of us danced together). It was never my intention to take part in the show but as the weeks went by I started to pick up the dance and I thought to myself what the hell I’m going to do it! It was choreographed to Rhianna’s Please Don’t Stop The Music it was full of easy steps, but they were really fast!
I was very proud of myself for taking part. It's like no other feeling in the world getting up on stage dancing in front of friends and family. It gives you a sense of fullfilment that nothing else can. I reaped the rewards from doing it – I wouldn’t have sacrificed it for nothing!
The money raised was donated to a man who has lost his friend to cancer. He had also suffered from and survived this awful disease himself as a result he was pushing a bed from London to Wigan. We handed him a cheque for £1000. It made me think how lucky I have been. A year ago I was fighting back from the brink of death and now I was back where I belong – doing what I love doing – dancing! Who would have believed it!
