Tips for injury free Line dancing in this cold weather

For many of us this cold spell is not the weather/temperature that we are used to. So it makes sense to make sure that you make sure that your muscles and so on are nicely warmed up before you go mad on the dance floor. You can get the blood circulating by changing the weight from one foot to the other either on the spot with baby hitches, marching or walking forward and back with low kicks or touches - let your arms swing naturally as you do this to encourage the body to warm up. As you warm up you can increase the arm swing but without forcing it. Some foot and ankle mobility such as alternate heel touches forward and toe and heel struts are good for getting the circulation moving around the feet and lower legs. Doing some alternate hitches will help to warm up the hip joints.

Remember also to warm down or cool down your muscles before going out into the cold. At least, some gentle easing out or stretching of the main leg muscles which is something we should all do anyway as it will help to avoid the delayed muscle soreness or stiffness that you can get one or two days after exercising.

Stay safe and healthy

Happy I was when I read in Linedancermagazine, that exercises for stretching out for dancers, could be found on your webpage (Sho's). I want to use it at the end of my dancelessons for my dancers, but I just can't find them on the webpage. Can you help me?

Best regards
Marianne
