Where to go for competitions?

Postby Woulfe on Fri Apr 03, 2009 9:51 am

I have a young girl in my class who is 14 years old, she would like to enter Line Dancing competitions. I am not sure how to encourage her. Where can I take her to compete? If any one could help I would be extremely grateful.

Hi,
Masters In Line are great when you're first starting with competitions as they only have 3 set dances. Rob Fowler is the event director and Nicola Lafferty is responsible for general com info/rules. You can e mail them on rob@worlddancemasters.co.uk or
competitions@mastersinline.com Both Rob & Nicola will answer any questions you may have. If you google Masters In Line or World CDF which is one of the other main competition sources you'll see all the comp. calendar info. on the website.
Masters In Line may be your best bet as they arrange competitions the whole year throughout the UK building up to Worlds which is in Blackpool in August.

Anyway, hope this helps. Let me know if you need anthing else. Good Luck!

Hi,

I'm competing now 4th year in WCDF events (http://www.worldcdf.com). I really enjoy dancing :) Will copy information from website:

The World Country Dance Federation (WorldCDF) was formed in Europe, with the mission to “further the art form and sport of country dance at all levels (social, competitive and professional), through a variety of styles and music.”

The WorldCDF is the largest country dance organization in the World, not only serving the largest contingency of line dance competitors, but certainly also the social dancers in many countries. Our community brings many years of relevant dance experience, including dance instructors, dance studio owners, conducting dance events, judging dance events, competing at dance events, and simply enjoying the fun of social dancing.

As you can see in our Calendar the WorldCDF organizes competitions in many countries around the world. The WorldCDF has dancer friendly rules that are kept simple, yet informative. Every year World Championships are hosted by the WorldCDF, including the largest and most prestigious Country Dance World Championship titles.

You can compete also in WCDF events. In social division You have to dance only 3 dances, if You move up to newcomer, novice, intermediate, advanced - You have to dance 6 dances. Good start would be in social division, and see how it goes. In UK is 2 WCDF events:
* Scottish Championships which will be held in Edinburgh 17th-19th of september 2010 (for more information check http://www.scottishchampionsships.com)
* Star Studded Championships which is held in Liverpool or Blackpool... (http://www.headliners.org.uk) date for next event is not online yet. but think event will be like ussually or end of july, begining of august

Wish You all the best :)
